Lock the Gate Alliance is a national grassroots organisation made up of over 120,000 supporters and more than 250 local groups who are concerned about unsafe coal and gas mining.

Our vision is of healthy, empowered communities which have fair, democratic processes available to them to protect their land and water and deliver sustainable solutions to food and energy needs.

We are a grassroots organisation with a broad base of support across the country. We have very strong followings on Facebook but want to build on this by growing our reach and engagement with new people through Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube.

The Role

We are seeking a social media whiz to manage and grow the reach and engagement on our existing social media channels and to reach new supporters on Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube through production of engaging and informative short video content.

Join us and help local communities tackle the biggest threats and most exciting opportunities in the country, from fracking in the Kimberley to the diversification of the Hunter Valley.

We’re looking for someone highly skilled, experienced, creative, responsive and conscientious who enjoys working with people with varied backgrounds and experiences and tackling problems with cooperation. You will be an integral part of our Communications team and will work closely with other Coordinators across the country to develop strategy and content.

We are flexible on where this role will be located within Australia although Sydney or Brisbane would be preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • Create and coordinate engaging and effective daily social media content to meet Lock the Gate’s campaign goals and objectives (Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Youtube).
  • Coordinate and produce short form videos about Lock the Gate’s coal and gas campaigns around the country for use across all social media platforms, in collaboration with other members of the comms team.
  • Work as part of a small geographically separated communications team to develop and implement the social media and marketing strategy across LTG channels to help grow reach and engagement.
  • Assist with Lock the Gate’s print and outdoor advertising and promotion campaigns.
  • Any other comms or social media work as required.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in social media management from an agency, brand or freelance experience, with a strong understanding of platform-specific best practices.
  • Proficiency in content creation tools and effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to familiarise yourself with a range of information from campaigns around Australia.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in the development of engaging short video content for use on social media.
  • Details oriented and a keen eye for design.
  • A great storyteller with the ability to produce compelling written and visual content that engages audiences.
  • Ability to manage creative projects within set timeframes, and work cohesively and collaboratively as part of a geographically separated team.
  • Proven organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities
  • Commitment to the goals and values of Lock the Gate, including working in a non hierarchical organisation.
  • Commitment to kindness and compassion

Desirable

  • Experience with advertising briefs and designing and implementing effective print and outdoor advertising campaigns.
  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Graphic Design.
  • Understanding of SEO, Facebook Ads and Google Ads management and familiarity with Google Analytics.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.

We are flexible on where this role will be located within Australia although Sydney or Brisbane would be preferred.

This is a full-time role, however, we may consider part time (4 days per week) for an ideal candidate.
