Over the course of 2024 and heading into 2025, we have a number of our teaching staff taking study leave, maternity leave and others who have completed their contracts and are moving into their next teaching chapter.

There are a number of teaching and leadership positions available in the next 12 months, some beginning in Semester 2, 2024 and others beginning in 2025.

The Nawarddeken Academy was established at the request of local Indigenous elders, who wanted desperately for children to be able to access full-time education in their home communities.

The Nawarddeken Academy has 3 registered schools in the Indigenous Protected Area of west Arnhem Land, Kabulwarnamyo, Manmoyi & Mamardawerre.

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in teaching multiple Key Learning Areas of the Australian Curriculum.
  • Knowledge and capacity, or willingness to develop competency, in explicitly teaching foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Understanding of differentiation across multi-aged classrooms.
  • Experience in working in a remote context.
  • Personal philosophy regarding teaching and behaviour management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a child safe environment in accordance with child safe standards.
  • Maintain proficient professional knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students and to improve your practice.
  • Plan and deliver programs for the daily education of a multi-age group of EAL/D students.
  • Collaborate with Bininj staff, the Indigenous Language and Culture (ILC) Committee, Warddeken Land Management (WLML) staff, and community stakeholders to plan and implement the Seasonal Calendar (KWWM) curriculum.
  • Teach Literacy and Numeracy lessons with a strong focus on foundation skills, and using a Science of Learning approach.
  • Create Learning Plans for core students working 2 years below age for grade; implement strategies to achieve student learning goals; and appropriately differentiate for student needs.
  • Conduct twice yearly Learning Yarns with families to discuss student learning goals.
  • Record and report on student learning outcomes as per our assessment schedule.
  • Implement effective student management consistent with the school’s policies, strategic plan, and trauma informed practise.
  • Actively promote and support a range of student activities including wellbeing and welfare programs.
  • Maintain updated and accurate records of student attendance.
  • Contribute to and attend a range of co-curricular programs including camps, workshops, online sessions, and some weekend activities.

General Duties:

  • Contribute to the maintenance of classrooms, classroom equipment, and school infrastructure.
  • Upkeep the safety and maintenance of site-specific NAL Vehicles.
  • Manage a learning area and/or specialist function e.g., excursions/camps, sport, student welfare, key learning area etc.
  • Contribute to Nawarddeken reporting e.g., social media posts, newsletters, Board meetings.
  • Community engagement and support e.g., assemblies, WLML camps.
