The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body representing, advocating, and supporting Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child protection and family support sector.

By sharing our collective knowledge and experience, we can all make a positive impact on policies and practices to stop the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Queensland’s child protection and youth justice systems.

About the role

This position operates within Practice and Workforce Development (PWD) as a key member of the Delegated Authority Team. The Delegated Authority Team is dedicated to resource, support and strengthen the capacity and capability of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations involved in the implementation of Delegated Authority.

Typical Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain productive, professional relationships across QATSICPP teams, the community-controlled sector, key stakeholders and partners including the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disabilities Services (DCSSDS).
  • Lead the development of high-quality resources, tools, practice initiatives and solutions that enhance understanding and implementation of Delegated Authority statewide.
  • Encourage and model quality collaboration and partnership with the community-controlled sector to build sector capacity and capabilities in Delegated Authority practice, process and policies as organisations broaden the scope of their Delegated Authority.
  • Identify and respond to state and system wide opportunities for emerging best practice and improvements in the implementation of Delegated Authority.
  • Produce relevant Delegated Authority documentation, status reports and project updates in line with individual workplans and project requirements.
  • Other duties as requested by the Delegated Authority Manager and/or Director, PWD and/or CEO.

Desired skills, experience, and capabilities

  • Experience working with community-controlled child protection services and/or statutory child protection system, with knowledge of child protection reforms and an understanding of the impacts and opportunities for QATSICPP’s member organisations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of system and practice issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families within the context of child protection.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to the excellence, strong culture and performance of the community-controlled sector.
  • Excellent organisations skills, with strong ability to work independently, manage workloads, take initiative, meet deadlines, and adapt and persist in achieving objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills as well as strong written skills.
  • Strives for continuous improvement with focus on developing innovative and effective work practices.
  • Models cooperative and collaborative behaviours, works in partnership with QATSICPP teams and contributes to the overall work of QATSICPP, as needed.
  • Ability to research and analyse complex material, identify key issues and develop innovative and creative solutions.

Mandatory requirements

  • Possession of a degree and/or post graduate studies in Social Science, Social Policy or Human Services is highly desirable.
  • A current valid Queensland Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply.
  • Drivers Licence
  • Ability to travel within Queensland to support activities.
