Soldier On deliver a number of holistic support services; including Health & Wellbeing, Employment Support, Education support, and Social Engagement to current and ex-serving ADF members and their families.

Position Purpose

Over the next five years, Soldier On has set a strategic fundraising goal to double revenue to $10,000,000.

The Philanthropy Team forms part of the Fundraising Team within Soldier On and works closely with the Executive Director of Fundraising and the Individual Giving Team,

The Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships will play a pivotal role in achieving this goal through the contribution of revenue from philanthropic sources such as major donors, corporate partnerships, grants and the Soldier On Pledge program. The Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships is responsible for meeting fundraising targets from these channels.

The Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships will advance the mission and objectives of Soldier On by leading the development and implementation of comprehensive fundraising strategies and fostering strategic partnerships. This position requires a dynamic individual with a passion for philanthropy, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in fundraising and relationship management.

This Position has a number of Direct Reports.

The position is preferred in our Soldier On Headquarters - Canberra ACT. However, applicants outside of Canberra are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Revenue Responsibility:

  • Work with the Executive Director of Fundraising to set financial targets for Philanthropy and Partnerships based on the 5 year strategic plan for fundraising
  • Meet or exceed financial targets set for the team
  • Manage the revenue and expenditure budget for Philanthropy and Partnerships
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the Executive Director of Fundraising

Strategic Fundraising:

  • Develop and execute innovative fundraising strategies to meet revenue targets and ensure the sustainability of Soldier On.
  • Manage the Philanthropy team to Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and other potential funding sources with the specific goal of increasing revenue
  • Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Fundraising to set fundraising goals and targets.

Partnership Development:

  • Identify and engage potential strategic partners including corporations, NGOs, government agencies, and community organisations.
  • Develop and sustain HNWI relationships to grow donations
  • Negotiate and manage corporate partnership agreements and MOUs to ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Cultivate, grow and maintain strong financial relationships with existing partners, serving as the primary point of contact.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to leverage partnerships for maximum impact.

Donor Relations and Stewardship:

  • Implement donor stewardship strategies to foster long-term relationships and enhance donor engagement.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with donors, including acknowledgment of gifts and progress reports.
  • Maintain a donor database to track major donor interactions, preferences, and giving history.

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the philanthropy and partnerships team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance expectations and goals for team members and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Identify training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of the team.

Strategic Planning and Reporting:

  • Contribute to the development of the organisation's strategic plan, with a focus on fundraising and partnership objectives.
  • Prepare regular reports on fundraising activities, outcomes, and performance metrics for internal stakeholders and the board of directors.
  • Analyse fundraising trends and donor demographics to inform strategic decision-making.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or related fields, with demonstrated success in securing major gifts and grants.
  • Proven track record of meeting fundraising revenue targets and building and maintaining strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven track record developing fundraising strategies and budgets
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate the mission and impact of the organisation to a variety of audiences.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Knowledge of fundraising software and donor management systems is preferred.
