Australians for Mental Health is a national grassroots social change organisation aiming to reshape Australia as a place where mental wellbeing is at the heart of our national life and all Australians can live their best, mentally healthy lives. We aim to do that by bringing people together and organising a powerful voice for lasting change.

We are interested in meaningful social change, and not simply awareness or acceptance of mental health issues.

We are a small organisation in its start-up phase. We are currently looking to employ a Digital Communications Officer to help us get our message out to millions of Australians through digital channels.

Responsibilities

Website:

  • General management of our NationBuilder website and associated database;
  • Upload media releases and other news items in a timely way;
  • Create campaign pages and associated actions (e.g. petitions);
  • Create basic graphics, images or other design elements required for website pages based on the style guide;
  • Liaise with graphic designer for more complex designs;
  • Create and maintain journeys for website visitors;
  • Produce weekly website traffic reports.

EDMs:

  • Create EDMs in NationBuilder based on text supplied by other staff;
  • Provide input into EDM text;
  • Create graphics, images or other design elements required for EDMs;
  • Post EDMs, monitor A/B tests and manage re-sends;
  • Manage replies to EDMs by responding to enquiries or forwarding to appropriate staff;
  • Create and maintain supporter/member/donor journeys within NationBuilder.

Social Media:

  • Create social media content, including tiles, video and text for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & TikTok;
  • Shooting and basic editing of video & photos;
  • Liaise with photographers, videographers and editors for more complex content;
  • Attend events as needed to capture social media content;
  • Post social media content in accordance with the social media plan, and contribute to the creation of that plan;
  • Manage social media advertising based on an advertising plan for the relevant campaign.

Skills & Experience

  • Confidence using NationBuilder or a similar platform for both website and database;
  • Experience using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & TikTok for advocacy, campaigning or fundraising purposes;
  • Some graphic design skills and confidence using Canva and/or InDesign;
  • Ability to work quickly and reactively as campaigns unfold, with minimal supervision;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and orientation towards relationship building;
  • Orientation towards outreach to large, diverse audiences.

Extra Points For

  • A proven track record working in a political or advocacy environment;
  • Previous video production experience, particularly quick turnaround video for social media;
  • Community organising or community development experience, even if only as a participant in an organising effort.

  • It is not a prerequisite of this role that you have prior experience working in the mental health service-delivery sector.
  • Your experience does not need to be in a paid role: volunteer or activist experience will be equally considered with employment history.

Employment Conditions

Hours:

  • Permanent part-time 45 hours per fortnight;
  • Considerable flexibility in hours worked is possible, subject to organisational needs;
  • Overtime paid or available as time-in-lieu in accordance with the Award.

Grade & Salary:

  • SCHAD Award Grade 4.1
  • $40ph + Super

Location:

  • This role is generally based in Chippendale in Sydney, but work from home is available on some days.
  • In-person attendance at Chippendale or another location in Sydney will be required regularly.
  • Some inter-state and regional travel may be required from time to time.
