National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation

2 days left to apply

The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is the national peak body representing 145 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), that provide primary healthcare across Australia.

ACCHOs are currently the third largest employer of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They range from large multi-functional services employing several medical practitioners and providing a wide range of services, to small services which rely on Aboriginal health practitioners and/or nurses to provide the bulk of primary health care services. The sector is rapidly increasing its service delivery footprint in disability, aged care, mental health, SEWB and AOD.

It's an exciting and transformative time to be working in the health sector. In recent years, there has been a renewed focus on improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. NACCHO has been instrumental in driving systems reform in the context of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and recent budget announcements.

ABOUT THE TEAM

NACCHO undertakes communications and media work in a range of different environments, from building national level communications strategies to working with the ACCHO sector on communications strategies and engagement plans to improve health outcomes, build awareness, change behaviours, influence policy, and advocate on behalf of our members.

Our work is fast paced and driven by the intention to do great work whilst taking strategic direction from the Board and collaborating with other teams, the community and each other, and importantly, having fun while we do it.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The NACCHO Communications Team respond to the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector and to government policies across a wide range of emerging issues relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, ageing, disability, and other social determinants of health and the media. The work is dynamic, innovative, and exciting.

A critical part of this role is responding to media exposure as well as proactive management of NACCHO news and media from end to end, including sourcing and pitching news stories across remote, regional and national areas and engaging stakeholders, writing and distributing media releases, and strategic planning.

The Senior Media and Communications Advisor will also play a key role in assisting with internal communications and management of a small, dynamic team.

A usual day in this role might see you collaborating with a program team to develop a communications plan for COVID-19 or Aged Care, writing a media release in response to a change to legislation which we have been advocating for, pitching a story for local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector, briefing the CEO on key messages for a radio interview, responding to varying types of media exposure, or refining the communication team’s systems and processes.
