About the role

This is a permanent full time (35 hours / week) based in Chippendale.

Foyer Central is located in the heart of Sydney and offers 53 studio apartment style accommodation for young people with a lived experience of out of home care.

Foyer Central is a bold evidence-based program for young people aged 18-22, funded by a combination of social investment and government funding, and supporting young people’s transition to adulthood and independence.  

Using a strength based Advantaged Thinking practice approach, the program aims to provide young people the opportunity to create a culture of ownership, inclusivity, creativity, respect and learning in a connected and vibrant community. 

As the Education / Employment Coordinator you will form an integral part of the Leadership team and will be responsible for educational and employment opportunity programming.  

As part of this role, you will deliver and/or facilitate structured and unstructured learning opportunities for the young people including mentoring and coaching, networking within the local community and via strong partnerships with education and employment networks and representatives.

Your goal will be to motivate young people to engage in employment and education opportunities and activities as part of holistic life domain planning. You will provide a safe and stable environment, demonstrating positive role modelling to enable young people to meet their goals and achieve their full potential.

What we need from you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences and demonstrated relevant work experience with young people. 
  • A passion for working with young people and a sound knowledge of the challenges faced by young people leaving the out-of-home-care system. 
  • An understanding of trauma informed practice (or willingness to learn). 
  • The ability to initiate and develop positive connections with relevant educational and employment focused agencies, programs, and services in the local community. 
  • A willingness to learn about and work within an Advantage Thinking practice model. 
  • The capacity to work with and supervise a small team of workplace students and volunteers including induction, monitoring, and rostering.  
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence, WWCC and National Police Check with the ability to work flexible hours.
