About the role:

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a Deputy Managing Lawyer to oversee the daily operations of our legal team based in Dandenong. As a senior lawyer, you will play an important role in guiding and supporting our legal team to deliver high quality legal services. You will oversee casework, court advocacy, and client representation, with a focus on family, criminal, family violence or civil law matters.

Additionally, you'll be responsible for mentoring and supervising junior lawyers, facilitating their growth and development under the guidance of the Regional Manager.

About you:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Extensive experience in family, family violence, criminal, or civil law practice, with a strong track record of handling complex legal matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Proven experience in mentoring and supervising junior lawyers, supporting their professional development and growth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • A passion for advocating for the rights of clients and promoting access to justice for all members of the community.
  • A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
