About the program

In 1963, while led by Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker, Wesley Mission established Lifeline. Since then, the Lifeline movement has grown significantly. It is now Australia’s largest national phone support service, answering over a million calls a year.

As one of the 40 accredited Lifeline Australia Centres, Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland is owned and operated by Wesley Mission and supports more than 30,000 people annually through its 13 11 14 crisis support service. The Centre continues to grow its volunteer base and existing suite of support services within the community.

The Centre is one of several programs supported and operated under Wesley Mission’s suicide prevention branch, central to the broader Vision of Wesley Mission.

About the role

The Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland Operations & Service Coordinator provides daily operational leadership aligned with business plans and objectives.

Reporting to the Group Manager, the successful applicant will focus on compliance with funding agreements, data collation and interpretation for reporting, support our Training and Practice staff to grow our number of volunteers in the Sutherland Shire, support the Wesley Mission Fundraising Team with the Shire and surrounding community, and volunteer workforce management (WFM) to ensure volunteer and paid ‘Crisis Supporters’ are rostered to maximise support to help seekers using the 131114 service.

The position is based in ‘The Cottage’ at 16 Bellingara Rd, Sylvania, and attends our Sydney CBD site as required. The successful applicant will also be required to maintain the stock of equipment, resources and kitchen for volunteer use at the cottage and support the team as required.

Essential criteria

  • Work Force Management experience – preferably with a sound knowledge of ‘Verint’
  • collating data from existing sources to report to government and NGO funding bodies
  • highly proficient (advanced) in Microsoft software solutions, including MS Teams, Office365 and Power BI
  • strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, as well as cooperatively with others as required to support the achievement of individual and team goals
  • consistent initiative, discretion, judgement, and tact of a high level, with the ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with issues of a sensitive or personal nature
  • highly organised time manager with a high attention to detail and the ability to think laterally and creatively in an environment of multiple and competing priorities
  • ability to learn new systems and provide team support in a timely manner
  • current WWCC
  • satisfactory National Criminal History Check
  • current, unrestricted licence and a willingness to drive between sites as required.

Desirable skills/knowledge

  • Experience working in a community welfare, volunteering, community engagement or mental health setting
  • experience implementing new systems/solutions to streamline productivity in the workplace
  • qualifications in Business Administration or relevant experience.
