The organisation:

Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre (WSMRC) is headquartered in Liverpool, which is Sydney’s emerging 3rd CBD and supports newly arrived migrants and refugees from a wide diversity of cultures. The organisation empowers diverse communities to connect, communicate and contribute. WSMRC provides a range of wrap-around programs supporting our core settlement services. These include family services, playgroups, disability and health supports, youth activities and a variety of other information-based advisory and community leadership programs.

About the role:

WSMRC are seeking a leader who will build on their history, evaluate and improve the way they currently do things for their clients and who can also help expand their revenue streams.

The CEO is a key figure in championing inclusivity and progress for the migrant community. In addition to strategic responsibilities, the CEO serves as a leader, guiding employees to effectively support migrants' diverse needs.

Working with the board, the CEO ensures that WSMRC is meeting its legislative and funding obligations, delivering high quality and culturally safe services, and identifying opportunities to innovate, advocate and partner, to achieve greater social impact.

Key responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and strategic direction for an organisation.
  • Continuously strengthen the culture and staff engagement, whilst providing mentorship and upskilling to management.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community organisations, and funding bodies.
  • Foster collaborations and partnerships to enhance service delivery and advocate for migrant and refugee rights.
  • Secure funding from various sources, such as grants, donations, and corporate partnerships.
  • Lead and implement organisational change to adapt to evolving needs and trends.
  • Work with the board to provide guidance and support to the board, ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with relevant regulations.

Essential experience:

  • Deep understanding and appreciation of the diverse needs and challenges faced by migrant and refugee communities and experience working in the social services sector, particularly with migrant and refugee communities.
  • Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure the sustainability and growth of the organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey the organisation's mission, goals, and impact.
  • Experience in media relations and public speaking, including engaging with diverse media outlets.
  • Familiarity with relevant programs, services, and policies that support the settlement and integration of migrants and refugees.
  • Experience in a senior leadership role and working with a Board.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a high performing team with a positive and cohesive team culture.
  • Relevant qualifications and checks.
