About the JCTS

Joint Colleges Training Services Pty Ltd (JCTS) is a joint venture of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (the RACGP).

JCTS will enable RACGP and ACRRM to deliver shared GP training activities for the Colleges’ respective fellowship training programs and includes the development and delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health strategic plans, cultural education and cultural mentorship, the provision of registrar housing in some remote Northern Territory and communities and other potential areas of collaboration.

About you

As one of our Cultural Educators, you’ll have a well-developed sense of personal responsibility and a grounded cultural identity combined with excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organisational skills with a commitment to working cross-functionally and collaboratively.

To thrive in this role, you’ll have:

  • an understanding and knowledge of community and traditional and contemporary ways of the region, including men’s business and other traditional customs
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate diverse audiences effectively
  • sensitivity, empathy, and respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • demonstrated understanding and experience in the design and delivery of Cultural Awareness and Safety Training
  • an ability to develop and deliver presentations or hold small group discussions using powerpoint
  • familiarity with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service sector within WA

About the opportunity

Reporting to our Regional Manager, Western Australia, you’ll work in partnership with Medical Educators of a local GP Training region to assist with the development and delivery of Cultural Awareness Training to registrars, supervisors and practice teams members. Key to your success will be your ability to collaborate with and develop strong working relationships with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health program team and the community. Some responsibilities will include:

  • building strong working relationships and negotiating with key stakeholders to provide region wide support especially within the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service sector
  • providing high level project management in the design and delivery of Cultural Awareness and Safety Training
  • attending and actively participating / representing JCTS on relevant stakeholder committees, forums and meetings
  • supporting GP Registrars training within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or Aboriginal Medical Service
  • providing in person or online education and mentoring to GP registrars
  • provide education as required to supervisors, medical educators or other key stakeholder groups
