WHO ARE WE

DVAC has a long history of providing high quality services to women, children/young people and individuals who have experienced domestic, family, and sexual violence in the Ipswich, Toowoomba, and surrounding regions. DVAC works from a feminist perspective. We have a gender analysis of domestic, family, and sexual violence that understands that domestic, family, and sexual violence is a result of systemic power imbalances and inequalities. We acknowledge the many barriers that exist for women and their families as they seek safety and support, and that women from diverse backgrounds can face particular and unique barriers. We are strong advocates for change on all levels. We actively stand against all forms of oppression (including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, and multiple other forms of oppression) and believe in the right of justice, equality, and fairness for all.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior SASV Specialist, you will assume a pivotal role within our Early Intervention & Response Team, contributing to the provision of leadership and support. Your duties will encompass:

  • Demonstrating a passion for assisting individuals, including women, men, and diverse populations, within an intense and rapidly changing crisis environment.
  • Collaborating closely with the Team Leader to furnish guidance and assistance to team members.
  • Providing trauma-informed support to clients grappling with the effects of sexual violence.
  • Formulating and executing safety plans aimed at enhancing client well-being and security.
  • Assisting in the coordination of brokerage budgets and the administration of program support.
  • Serving as a role model, mentor, and guide to team members, cultivating their professional growth.
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, practice standards, and organisational policies.
  • Exhibiting composure and professionalism in making assessments under challenging circumstances.
  • Advocating for clients while nurturing positive relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Demonstrating organisational skills, effective prioritisation, and time management in the face of multiple demands.
  • Engaging in honest, transparent, reflective, and accountable practice.
  • Aligning daily crisis interventions with broader organizational objectives and community outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field
  • Experience and skills in mentorship & leadership
  • Experience and skills in gender-based violence risk assessment, safety planning, crisis support, domestic and family violence and sexual violence counselling, system advocacy and case management is preferred
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and knowledge of court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 QLD
  • Current Queensland driver’s license
  • Current Blue Card (QLD working with children check)
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position.
  • Ability to work within the philosophy, objectives and policies of the organisation including: Working within a feminist framework, Working as a member of the staff team & utilising consultative and collaborative processes

  • Expertise in Providing Support and Guidance: Detail extensive skills and experience in offering support, guidance, and counselling to individuals impacted by domestic and family violence, as well as highlight your ability to provide compassionate and effective assistance to survivors, showcasing past achievements and successful interventions.
  • Collaborative Skills and Team Building: Demonstrate proficiency in fostering collaboration within a team environment. Explain strategies for building positive and effective working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and relevant parties.
  • Capacity Development within Teams: Describe your approach to developing the capacity of team members, particularly in the context of supporting survivors of domestic and family violence. Explain how you facilitate skill development, knowledge sharing, and mutual support among team members, fostering a culture of growth and support.
  • Administrative Proficiency: Outline your knowledge and proficiency in various administrative functions essential to the role.
