 Job Description

Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Child, Youth and Family Support Services division. The Kalwun Child, Youth and Family Support Services division administers the Family Wellbeing Service, Family Participation Program, Early Learning Program and the Kinship and Foster Care programs within the South East Qld region.

About the Role

In the Finding Kin team you will have the opportunity to work together with Child Safety Service Centre staff and our Non-Government partners to ensure the delivery of high quality care arrangements and Regulation of Care matters for children and young people under the care of the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs in the local community.

In this role you will work within a multidisciplinary team and provide high quality, culturally appropriate, child protection services to children, families and carers serviced by the Child Safety Service Centre. The purpose of this position is to ensure high quality care arrangement and regulation of care in accordance with legislation and practice guidelines. The role works in partnership with Child Safety Service Centre Staff to map and locate kinship care options for children and young people in alternative care arrangements with a strong focus on culturally appropriate matching. This role will see you achieve real and meaningful outcomes that have a positive impact in our community. 

Position Duties

  • Effectively and positively engage with children, families, carers and service providers (including both government and non-government agencies) as required to support children through family, community and within culture and to have with identified case plan goals.
  • Provide individualised, high quality, and culturally appropriate supports to children and families subject to tertiary child protection intervention including, but not limited to; facilitation of positive family connection, referrals and advocacy for services, parent and kinship carer coaching and support of transition from care plans.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, children, parents and kinship carers to support the establishment and strengthening of effective safety and support networks, including connection to extended family and community.
  • Provide high quality, comprehensive casework support and advice to assist in informing decisions about the safety and protective needs of children where complex child protection concerns are present.
  • Participate effectively as a team member in a multidisciplinary team to deliver well-planned family support services to vulnerable children and families.
  • Actively contribute to a culture of continuous learning, training and professional development, to ensure practice knowledge and skills are contemporary and evidence based.
  • Prepare and maintain quality case records in accordance with departmental case management requirements.
  • Undertake any other directive from the Program Manager (Kinship and Foster Care) and General Manager.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications applicable to the role
  • Experience working with the community sector and in a range of partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of groups and people and gain cooperation and assistance from others.
  • A high level of communication skills including oral, written and computer based and including spreadsheets, email, internet, digital media etc.

Additional Information

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check and hold a current drivers' license.
  • A Blue Card for working with children is a mandatory requirement. The 'No Card No Start' law applies to this position - a Blue Card must be obtained prior to commencement.
