Our Environmental Systems department has an exciting opportunity for an engineering professional to join our progressive Environmental Strategy team. Your focus will be on projects relating to climate resilience, flooding and environmental health to support our city’s built and natural asset programs. You will support Council and the community to increase resilience to a range of risks including; sea level rise, tidal inundation, flooding, urban heat and contaminated land.

Your key focus areas are:

  • Provide specialist environmental engineering advice on a range of current and emerging risks impacting Council, the environment and the Lake Macquarie community
  • Develop partnerships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to plan and implement Council’s city resilience projects
  • Develop project briefs, prepare and assess tenders and manage contractors to undertake City resilience projects in accordance with Council guidelines
  • Facilitate the delivery of grant funded projects, including preparing grant applications and reporting to funding bodies in accordance with grant guidelines and Council’s procedures
  • Plan and implement local climate change adaptation, natural disaster and environmental health projects to improve City resilience

You are innovative in the industry and will ensure we are on the front foot to address emerging trends. Your ability to build relationships and effectively engage with stakeholders will ensure you achieve the best possible project outcomes for Council and our community.

Specifically, you will bring;

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental/civil engineering or equivalent
  • Specialist knowledge and practical experience in the field of climate change adaptation, floodplain management and/or environmental health
  • Demonstrated skills in project management including managing and reporting on project budgets
  • Demonstrated skills in the use and enhancement of computer applications including Microsoft Office suite, GIS, project management and customer support systems
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team environment
