What do we need you to do?

Facilitate plan and deliver quality, timely and effective high-quality art therapy programmes within the Leisure and Wellness Programmes to vulnerable elderly people in residential care. The Arts Programmes Officer lives and breathes Uniting's Person Centred Care approach, aiming to celebrate our clients as unique individuals. Providing unique physical, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing enhanced through meaningful art therapy classes and activities.                                   

Which includes:

  • Planning, developing and delivering a range of innovative high-quality art therapy programmes and activities that support positive health and wellbeing outcomes in clients.
  • Create opportunities for meaningful activity, creativity, self-expression and sensory stimulation Support clients with maintaining past interests and hobbies.
  • Encourage socialisation and positive group interaction and building self esteem, enabling self-exploration and release of inhibitions.
  • Nurture spirituality, promote relaxation, reduce agitation and boredom and encourage reminiscence.
  • Adapting art therapy activities to accommodate the needs of the client groups with different preferences, physical and cognitive abilities.
  • Using different mediums including story telling, poetry, aphorisms, visual arts and various techniques as well as age appropriate concepts.
  • Sourcing supplies and equipment, coordinating set up and clean up, helping clients with attending the activities.
  • Aligning art therapy programmes with Uniting Seniors programmes and initiatives eg decorating specific events, annual Christmas card competition, art exhibits etc.

What do we need you to bring?

  • Ideally, we’re looking for someone with a good insight into the health, social or aged care industries with an expert understanding of what creates a meaningful engagement for clients.
  • You will be an integral member of the Leisure and Wellness team across multiple services in Sydney Metro and therefore you will need:
  • Preferable qualification in relevant field (e.g. Cert IV in Leisure and Wellness) and/or equivalent experience in a similar role e.g. Art and Creative Therapies or an Arts background.
  • Experience using client/data management systems and social media Current First aid qual Current Australian Drivers Licence and a reliable registered vehicle.
  • You’ll be responsible for enhancing our clients unique physical, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing through meaningful lifestyle and wellbeing programs.
  • You will have a passion for Art and and are keen to share your passion with the elderly.
  • Understanding of what creates meaningful engagement for clients Ability to adapt art therapy activities to client groups with different preferences, physical and cognitive abilities including people with dementia.
  • Ability and willingness to bring new concepts and ideas to the table.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills and the ability to get along well with others.
  • Conscientious, reliable, flexible and a positive outlook.
  • Solid understanding of WHS and risk management practices.
