<h3>About BDAC</h3>
<p>The Bendigo &amp; District Aboriginal Cooperative (BDAC) is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).</p>
<p>BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to the Dja Dja Wurrung Community (Jaara people) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents living on Dja Dja Wurrung Country.</p>
<p>BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services, development of our Aboriginal community, better and improved health outcomes for our people, improved quality of life and be a lead agency in providing employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.</p>
<h3>The Position</h3>
<p>The Aboriginal Child Specialist Advice and Support Service Case Worker (ACSASS) is responsible for working as a part of a team to assist, support and strengthen Aboriginal families who are in contact with Child Protection. This role is responsible for providing Child Protection Practitioners advice and support about culturally appropriate intervention and service delivery, ACSASS will also provide information to the family regarding what their rights and responsibilities are and what services are available to them.</p>
<p>The ACSASS role is to ensure that Child Protection&rsquo;s decisions are made in the best interest of the child/children and/or young person and assuring that connection to culture is always upheld. When a child/children and/or young person is at risk of or experiencing emotional/physical abuse, neglect, family violence, intellectual underdevelopment and /or sexual abuse Child Protection may become involved. At this stage ACSASS will become involved also and will remain involved until all goals/tasks have been met.</p>
<p>The ACSASS case worker will be required to build, maintain and foster strong relationships with Child Protection and other agencies. This role is also a 24/7 service and therefore ACSASS workers are required to provide an after-hours service based on a rotating roster.</p>

<h3>Some Key Responsibilities</h3>
<p><strong>Advisory Support</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Provide a consultation service to the Department of Human Services Child Protection unit to ensure all cultural needs are and issues are considered in reaching a decision in regard to Aboriginal children.</li>
<li>Provide specialist information to Aboriginal families regarding child protection services, their rights and obligations.</li>
<li>Facilitate communication and negotiate between Child Protection services and families.</li>
<li>Record and maintain accurate case notes for all clients contact including: face to face, phone and email</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Reporting and compliance</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Contribute to implementation, evaluation and monitoring of the ACSASS program.</li>
<li>Actively participate in the review and documentation of policies, procedures, standards and practice model/frameworks.</li>
<li>Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies that address the issues associated with the implementation of new legislations.</li>
<li>Contribute to the development of internal processes to ensure cross program co-ordination</li>
<li>Complete monthly progress reports and provide to the team leader demonstrating progress towards set KPI&rsquo;s</li>
</ul>
<h3>Your skills and experience</h3>
<ul>
<li>Sound Knowledge of local issues and needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and the issues that Aboriginal families are facing today</li>
<li>Ability in convening and mediating outcomes with groups</li>
<li>A sound understanding of child and adolescent development, intervention techniques and strategies related to the protection of children and young people from abuse and neglect</li>
<li>Capacity to engage Aboriginal Children and their families in collaborative planning processes</li>
<li>Demonstrated knowledge of requirements in relation to policies, legislation, program and practices in relation to child welfare</li>
<li>Experience in preparing written reports including reports with statistical data collected from service delivery reporting and recording accurate case notes</li>
<li>With strengths based approach, solve problems based on operational knowledge and experience, sourcing useful information, looking for underlying reasons and suggesting alternative actions for clients and staff</li>
</ul>
<h3>Mandatory Requirements</h3>

<li>Hold a Tertiary Qualification in Social Work and/or Diploma of Community Services or equivalent.</li>
</ul>

<h3>The Position</h3>
<p><em><strong>Role of The Orange Door </strong></em></p>
<p>The Orange Door will deliver a fundamental change to the way we work with women, children and families, and men. The role of The Orange Door is to provide:</p>
<ul>
<li>A more visible contact point so that people know where to go for specialist support</li>
<li>Help for people to identify family violence and child and family safety and wellbeing issues</li>
<li>Advice based on contemporary risk assessment tools and guidance and best available information</li>
<li>Specialist support and tailored advice for victims, families and children, and perpetrators</li>
<li>A strong focus on perpetrator accountability &bull; connection and coordination of access to support</li>
<li>An approach across the spectrum of prevention, early intervention and response</li>
<li>A system-wide view of service capacity, client experience and outcomes.</li>
</ul>
<p>The Orange Door will support the agency of women, children and families, to ensure that the services they receive meet their needs and their goals.</p>
<h3><strong>The Orange Door Team </strong></h3>
<p>The Orange Door will bring together different workforces and practices to create an integrated The Orange Door team and a consolidated intake point in each The Orange Door area to create a new way of support for:</p>
<ul>
<li>Women, children, young people and families experiencing family violence</li>
<li>Perpetrators of family violence</li>
<li>Families in need of support with the care, development and well-being of children.</li>
</ul>
<p>This will be achieved by drawing on the expertise of CSOs and bringing together workers from organisations that currently:</p>
<ul>
<li>Receive police referrals for women who are victims of family violence</li>
<li>Receive police referrals for perpetrators of family violence (known as &lsquo;Enhanced Intake Services&rsquo;)</li>
<li>Receive child wellbeing referrals</li>
<li>Provide the Child FIRST service</li>
<li>Deliver other relevant services as appropriate, such as those delivered by Aboriginal services.</li>
</ul>
<p>The Orange Door Team will include a mix of staff employed by FSV and staff employed by CSOs, Aboriginal services and DHHS.</p>
<p>The Aboriginal Lead Practitioner will be part of two teams &ndash; The Orange Door Team and the BDAC Family Safety team.</p>
<h3>Key Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Leading and supporting culturally safe and responsive practice in The Orange Door with Aboriginal children, families and perpetrators</li>
<li>Leading, mentoring and developing Hub practitioners and team leaders in working with Aboriginal children, families and perpetrators</li>
<li>Building the cultural safety of The Orange Door and supporting choice and self-determination of Aboriginal people.</li>
<li>Liaising with and providing specialist or secondary consultation to organisations and services within The Orange Door network in order to discuss direct service issues for Aboriginal people accessing services through The Orange Door.</li>
<li>Working with local Aboriginal governance groups to provide connection between Aboriginal services, communities and The Orange Door.</li>
<li>Working collaboratively with the Hub Manager and Service System Navigator to build and maintain effective partnerships with Aboriginal services to support choice for Aboriginal people.</li>
<li>Managing stakeholders through effective negotiation and influence, harnessing this network to support Aboriginal people and ensure effective The Orange Door operations.</li>
<li>Oversee, monitor and deliver projects to respond to local needs, ensuring they are delivered in a culturally safe and effective way.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Key Selection Criteria</h3>
<ul>
<li><em><strong>Must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. </strong></em></li>
<li>Strong contemporary knowledge of Aboriginal culture, aspirations and self-determination: has a strong understanding of the local service delivery environment for Aboriginal children and families and communities in the local area. Additional recognition will given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.</li>
<li>Strong analytical, organisational and coordinating skills. Effectiveness in developing tasks and managing resources to achieve targets within set time frames.</li>
<li>Works collaboratively to drive cultural change: has a clear concept of the culture required to deliver effective, culturally safe and responsive services for Aboriginal people within an integrated practice context; delivers innovative practices that enhance quality outcomes for Aboriginal people; understands how to build and establish effective support networks.</li>
<li>Relevant tertiary qualifications and expert knowledge and experience within Aboriginal services: has established expertise and capability to lead and embed culturally safe and responsive practice as part of an integrated service model of collaborative service delivery and quality clinical practice in the Hubs; has highly developed negotiation and relationship building skills; understands the role of the law and legal system in the context of responding to family violence; has knowledge of practice with Aboriginal women, children, families, victims and perpetrators of family violence.</li>
<li>Relationship building: establishes and maintains relationships with people at all levels; promotes harmony and consensus through diplomatic handling of disagreements; forges useful partnerships with people across business areas, functions and organisations; builds trust through consistent actions, values and communication; minimises surprises.</li>
<li>Initiative and accountability: proactive and self-starting; seizes opportunities and acts upon them; takes responsibility for own actions.</li>
<li>Teamwork: cooperates and works well with others in pursuit of team goals, collaborates and shares information, shows consideration, concern and respect for others feelings and ideas, accommodates and works well with the different working styles of others, encourages resolution of conflict within the group.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Preferred / Desired Education, Training and/or Competencies</h3>
<ul>
<li>A recognised Social Work Degree or Community Services qualification, and/or extensive relevant work experience.</li>
</ul>
