As part of the team in our education-justice project Out Teach, we need you to think outside the box and push the boundaries on how you support young people who have become disconnected from education or work and become involved in criminal activity. You'll support young people to overcome personal barriers, pursue their interests and take the steps to become the best they can be. Shepparton Out Teach creates a culturally safe space for young people to have fun, build positive relationships, engage with the community and acquire life skills that will set them up for success.

Where you come in:

In this part-time, maximum-term (4 days per week for 12 months) position based in Shepparton, you'll provide one to one mentoring to young people to build a strong trusting relationship and develop individualised goals. You'll offer practical assistance such as transport and encouragement to attend appointments, make referrals and support young people to engage with the Out Teach Teacher. As part of our Northern Victoria team, you'll report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Working closely with the Out Teach Teacher to provide support to young people to achieve their goals
  • Building rapport through an assertive outreach approach
  • Supporting young people to access education, health, recreation and other services

Does this sound like you?

Your empathy, creativity and motivation to see young people grow will help you work in partnership to achieve outcomes for young people. Your understanding, cultural knowledge and remarkable communication skills will see you nurture engagement from young people, their families and the wider community.

This role requires:

  • Experience working with at-risk young people, with complex needs
  • Knowledge of the issues facing young people in the community, including trauma, neglect and abuse
  • Strong time management, organisational and record keeping skills
  • A minimum of a Certificate IV in Youth Work (or a related field), or progress towards
  • Current valid Driver's Licence
