Project Officer

The AMWU represents members in a wide range of manufacturing industries including food and confectionery; metal and engineering; printing, design, and packaging; technical, supervisory and administrative; and vehicle building, service and repair.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to help manage a project to up-skill workers in the transport support services Electric Vehicle (EV) industry. Funded by the Victorian Government, the project focuses on bus transport and maintenance service workers and is designed to up skill workers to maintain electric vehicles. 

The Project Officer will be responsible for ensuring the effective management and delivery of a project designed to help develop vocational training to up skill workers to maintain electric vehicles. 

Consistent with AMWU values, the successful candidate must have a genuine interest in enhancing the knowledge, skills and capabilities of AMWU members and be committed to work within a team environment to achieve better outcomes for workers.

A genuine commitment to Trade Unionism is essential.

Responsibilities will include:

  •  Preparing and implementing project plans, effective project scheduling, budgeting, administration, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Working collaboratively with AMWU officials, workplace employee representatives, employers and VET stakeholders to leverage the skills of the existing workforce and encourage transition to support business productivity and worker employability.
  • Provide regular reports to the project tripartite steering committee, AMWU governance committees and the Department of Education and Training (DET).
  • Oversee the development of resources and training packages to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities of the transport support services workforce. 

Skills and Knowledge

  • Project Management – demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Organisation and Prioritisation – demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritise workload to achieve team objectives within set timeframes.
  • Verbal and Written Communication – excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to build relationships with multiple project stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management – build and sustain positive working relationships with AMWU members and project stakeholders. 
  • Problem Solving – demonstrated problem solving skills and initiative.
  • Computer skills – a good working knowledge of word, excel and PowerPoint programs. 
  • Research skill – good research skills and knowledge of research ethics and data collection practices.
  • Driver’s License – there will be some regional travel required. 

Desirable

  • Experience working in the Automotive Industry will be highly regarded. 
  • Diploma of Project Management or similar professional training/experience.
