ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Social Reinvestment WA (SRWA) is an Aboriginal led state-wide coalition of 29 non-profits, working together since 2014 for smart justice, healthy families, and safe communities; and ultimately to end the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in WA’s justice system.

Our work includes:

  • Successfully campaigning to end imprisonment for unpaid fines;
  • Producing the podcast “Stories from the Inside”;
  • Supporting communities developing place-based Justice Reinvestment sites including the Olabud Doogethu project in Halls Creek;
  • Various advocacy and policy work on related issues including youth justice.
  • Currently leading the Raise the Age WA campaign

about the role

SRWA has been leading state wide advocacy for justice reinvestment initiatives, and are key partners in supporting WA’s first justice reinvestment site Olabud Doogethu in Halls Creek. The role of the Justice Reinvestment Development Officer will be to expand upon the existing work and networks of SRWA, to support two more communities (including one in the metro area) as they establish place based justice reinvestment sites; and help to build the growing evidence base and document of the work in Australia.

We are looking for a community minded person with a variety of skills and experiences, passionate about the work we do, and ready to jump straight in and learn!

Essential Criteria

  • A relevant tertiary level qualification.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of justice reinvestment or a similar field (voluntary or paid).
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake community engagement and build relationships with a wide variety of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce written content across a wide variety formats including policy/academic pieces, briefings, guides for community members.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people.
  • Proficient in using technology such as Microsoft Suite, Outlook, Social Media, Canva etc.
  • Excellent work planning, administration, and prioritisation skills.

Desirable

  • Aboriginality.
  • Experience in Community Development, Collective Impact, Co Design, Justice Reinvestment.
