The Consumer Engagement Coordinator will support people living with dementia and care partners to share their stories ensuring their voices are heard at both a policy and practice level.

Reporting directly to the Team Leader - Consumer Engagement, you will also be responsible for:

  • Building collaborative relationships with Dementia Advocates (people living with dementia and care partners) that support positive policy and service change
  • Linking Dementia Advocates to places where decisions are being made, ensuring their stories are heard and promoted to government, media, services, fundraising and policy
  • Contributing to the ongoing development and revision of a national Dementia Australia Consumer Engagement Strategy and lead its implementation across designated states and territories (and other geographies if required)
  • Representing Dementia Australia on committees and at inquiries relating to issues pertinent to people living with dementia, their families and carers

To be successful in this role you will be a team player, have excellent interpersonal communication skills and meet the key selection criteria outlined below.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated dementia knowledge and understanding of the challenges for people living with dementia, or the capacity to develop that knowledge base and understanding
  2. Demonstrated understanding of consumer engagement frameworks
  3. An ability to engage and work in partnership with people living with dementia, their families and care partners
  4. An understanding of the importance of elevating the consumer voice to influence change
  5. Networking experience, including effective participation in external working groups and engagement with relevant organisations
  6. Proven capacity to facilitate groups, gather information, analyse data and prepare reports
  7. Exemplary interpersonal skills

Qualifications:

  • A tertiary qualification in public health policy, community development, consumer engagement, social work or other relevant discipline
