We are currently seeking a Counsellor to join our Client Services team located within the Hume region on a part-time or full time, fixed term contract. As a qualified Counsellor, you will provide support to people living with dementia, their families and carers through education, information and counselling services to individuals, groups or families.

Reporting directly to the Client Services Team Leader you will be responsible for:

  • Providing dementia specific counselling for people living with dementia, their families and carers through individual, group or family counselling in accordance with specified protocols
  • Providing information about dementia, available services, community & family education and resources to carers
  • Facilitate delivery and evaluation of therapeutic group programs, education and other tailored sessions for people living with dementia and their carers and families in accordance with program guidelines and workplans
  • Establish links, collaborate with and develop close working relationships with team members and a range of external service providers within the Hume region

To be successful in this role you will be a team player, show an absolute commitment to the delivery of high quality dementia services and support and meet the key selection criteria outlined below.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Registration with, or for membership of, a relevant professional body or association (e.g. Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, Australian Counselling Association, Australian Association of Social Workers or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia).
  • Extensive counselling experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the impact of the diagnosis and progression of dementia on the person and their family.
  • Experience in the delivery of educational information and group programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation skills etc.).
  • Well-developed case note, record keeping and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality presentations across a diverse community.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate speciality area such as Psychology, Social Work or Counselling
