About the Role

Barnardos are looking for a full-time permanent Aboriginal Identified Case Manager for the Yuranha Walan Program based at the Barnardos Centre in Orange, NSW.

Reporting to the Manager – the Aboriginal Identified Case Manager, will be responsible for;

  • Provide best practice case management with a focus on embracing Aboriginal worldviews, listening to the child/young person, connecting the child/young person to their family, community and culture, and strengthening their identity
  • Assisting children and young people to identify their needs and engage them in their reviews and care plans
  • Assessing potential carers which involves assessment, home visits and documentation of information obtained
  • Participating in and conducting group support and training for carers and young people as required
  • Process and assess referrals from Community Services
  • Liaising with other services working with the family
  • Case managing restoration as required

About You

This position is Aboriginal identified. To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the role be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

To be successful in the Aboriginal Identified Case Manager role, you will ideally have;

  • Preferred Cert III or Cert IV in community services or similar
  • Proven aptitude in human services field, preferably child and family services and an ability to relate this to the area of out of home care
  • Knowledge of child development, attachment theory and trauma related behaviours in children.
  • Ability to translate attachment and trauma theory into practical everyday advice/interventions in order to support children and carers.
  • Knowledge of child protection processes
  • Case Management experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and effective strategies to redress the disadvantage suffered by Aboriginal children, their families and communities
  • A current driver’s license and the ability to work in a flexible manner, including after hours, when required.

Salary: Base $66,393 to $82,571 plus leave loading plus superannuation. Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
