The Opportunity

Australia has demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls is a focus of Australia’s diplomatic, development and regional security efforts, articulated through the Gender Equality and Empowerment Strategy. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected women and girls, substantially worsening gender inequality. From the loss of casual and informal work where women are over-represented, to their withdrawal from school, increasing rates of GBV, escalating child marriage, and spiking maternal deaths, women and girls are bearing the brunt of the pandemic.

The SRHR C-Surge Initiative is a two-year program that will be implemented across the Indo Pacific region to accelerate the capacity of service providers and technical specialists to help address urgent unmet need for SRHR services and information, including scaling up innovative platforms developed over 2020 to respond to COVID-19 and rapidly changing operating contexts.

The initiative fund three separate, yet complementary SRHR programs implemented by four agencies – UNFPA, UNICEF, Marie Stopes International (MSI) (with the contract held by Marie Stopes International Australia (MSIA)) and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

DFAT Global Health Policy Branch will engage a Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Adviser to support implementation of the SRHR C-Surge Initiative. The adviser will support DFAT and SRHR C-Surge partners (MSI/IPPF, UNICEF and UNFPA) establish and implement a robust monitoring, evaluation and learning agenda and support quality reporting on the initiative.

This position is for a Short Term Adviser at C4 rates under the Adviser Remuneration Framework (ARF). The ARF can be accessed here.
