If so, the Bundjalung of Byron Bay Aboriginal Corporation (Arakwal) (BOBBAC) is looking for a dynamic General Manager to join our team in the stunning coastal town of Byron Bay.

About Us

Established in 1996, BOBBAC is dedicated to strengthening Aboriginal identity and culture while ensuring that cultural values, customs, and practices remain at the forefront of our mission. We work closely with government agencies, community groups, and business partners to protect and manage the land and waters of traditional Country, benefiting the community through improved housing, health and wellbeing, and training and employment opportunities.

The Role

As the General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of BOBBAC. You will drive the development and implementation of strategic plans, ensure compliance with all legal obligations, and manage financial, operational, and human resources functions. You will also play a key role in engaging with the Aboriginal community and other stakeholders to build strong, collaborative relationships that support BOBBAC's goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic and operational planning process, ensuring alignment with BOBBAC’s mission and goals.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of BOBBAC, including compliance with Native Title responsibilities and effective financial management.
  • Foster strong relationships with government agencies, community groups, and business partners.
  • Promote and preserve Aboriginal cultural heritage through various initiatives.
  • Manage and develop a small team, ensuring staff alignment with BOBBAC’s values and goals.
  • Engage with the community through events, communication, and partnership development.

About You

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Administration, Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in senior management roles, preferably within Aboriginal or not-for-profit organisations.
  • Strong business acumen with proven financial management skills.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities and a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and heritage.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to think creatively and embrace non-traditional approaches to business challenges.
  • Experience in property management and development, with the ambition to develop a cultural centre on BOBBAC land.
  • A current driver’s licence and the ability to obtain relevant security clearances.
