About the Role and You

This role is crucial to clients from refugee and migrant backgrounds within the SETS Program, it requires an individual, who really understands the housing market from a rental point of view plus has empathy to help our clients, whilst able to maintain a strong character to be an advocate on the clients behalf to ensure that they can source and maintain appropriate housing arrangements. Someone who makes active attempts to influence events to achieve goals, a self-starter who takes action to achieve goals beyond what is required.

The caseloads of SETS clients with housing needs will fluctuate, but you will maintain great collaboration communicate effectively with case workers in the Social Services team, and other internal stakeholders.

  • You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder relationship building skills
  • The ability to empower clients to build knowledge and competency in relation to accessing housing (services) including tenants' rights and responsibilities and government assistance schemes is essential.
  • An empathic individual with the strength of character to be a strong advocate on behalf of our clients to relevant private rental agencies, public housing services, QCAT plus other agencies.
  • Proven skills in providing guidance and support to the Community Education team with the ability to design and deliver training on housing systems and frameworks, including relevant legislation.
  • Experience working with real estates and housing agencies is essential.
  • Tertiary qualification in the human services, social work, or similar field
  • Knowledge in the field of Real Estate, preferably REIQ Certificate in Property Services.
  • Be familiar with the Queensland Housing Act (2003, high level of understanding of property management, and a good knowledge of current housing markets, with the passion to keep updated on all housing markets and legislations
  • Experience in the provision of culturally sensitive support to clients from a CALD background
  • Experience working with CALD communities is essential.
