Senior Research Officer

The Senior Research Officer is responsible to the Chief Executive Officer and will liaise regularly with other ACRS staff. The SRO will report to the Project Team [including representatives from ACRS, the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA)].

The SRO will be responsible for performing the day-to-day activities of managing project communications, risk management, timeline management, meeting budget requirements, consistency of reporting and deliverables. They will ensure the quality and rigour of the approach, reporting and manage the flow of information to save time and resources.

The position has a national focus and the successful applicant can work remotely, or be based in the Canberra office in Pearce, with the ability to work from home. There will be an element of travel required for onsite meetings with stakeholders. We are a close-knit Not-for-Profit (NFP) with a small team located in Canberra and others working remotely.

Selection Criteria:

  1. A tertiary degree in a relevant field e.g. road safety, social sciences, education, engineering.
  2. Substantial experience in a research role, managing and coordinating research studies, undertaking data analysis and report-writing.
  3. An understanding of survey implementation and research design methods.
  4. Ability to design and conduct quantitative and qualitative research.
  5. Extensive experience in conducting multivariate statistical analysis, an ability to interpret outputs and undertake and interpret thematic analysis.
  6. An understanding of capacity building such as further, higher, professional education or career development pathways.
  7. Proven organisational and time management skills with the ability to plan and coordinate research activities to meet objectives and timelines, as well as the ability to prioritise work and be efficient in analysis.
  8. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interpret and clearly communicate research findings to others, to write-peer-reviewed journal publications and to produce clear, succinct reports and documents.
  9. A high level of attention to detail and a desire for accuracy.
  10. A high degree of autonomy and a strong professional ethic of teamwork, adaptability and agility.
  11. Demonstrated experience in budget management and ensuring that financial goals are met.
  12. Demonstrated experience in a range of software including Microsoft 365 (or equivalent).
  13. A demonstrated awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy and information handling.

The following are highly regarded:

  1. Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field.
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage complex data sets.
  3. Experience in a membership-based or not-for-profit (NFP) organisation.
  4. Experience in tertiary ethics approval process.
