About the job...

We are seeking a dedicated Child and Family Consultant to join our Individual Support Packages (ISP) team based in Wooloowin, Brisbane, to provide therapeutic case coordination to families, caregivers, kids and young people within the Individual Support Packages (ISP) program.

This position is full-time, fixed-term until 28 July 2023. Extension of employment contract beyond this date is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

The Individual Support Packages (ISP) program works in partnership with Child Safety to provide holistic trauma-informed support to children in the child protection system. The ISP team work in close collaboration to deliver bespoke support packages informed by each child’s needs and focuses on increasing the capacity of their support network to meet these.

Key responsibilities

Use a trauma-informed model to support children and their ecological networks to achieve better outcomes by:

  • Completing thorough psycho-social assessments.
  • Implementing tailored evidence-informed interventions directly to children to cater to individual need.
  • Supporting reunification plans based on evidence-informed models.
  • Providing specialist attachment-based coaching and mentoring to carers and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating services and support networks.
  • Supporting case plan goals as determined by Child Safety and the ISP Practice Supervisor.
  • Actively leading and participating in activities including meetings with carers/families and key stakeholders including Child Safety and Department of Education.

About you...

  • A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (allied health, social work, human services, psychologist).
  • Professional registration (if required).
  • At least five years’ experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or have experienced abuse and neglect, or more than five years’ experience working in similar roles.
  • Demonstrated specialist skills in at least one of the following areas: drug and alcohol, mental health, family and domestic violence, child development and disabilities.
  • Expertise and understanding of child development and assessing functioning and wellbeing of children and young people who have experienced trauma and cumulative harm.
  • Understanding of family functioning, parenting and attachment, including assessing family relationships and parenting capacity and functioning.​
  • High level of cultural awareness and experience working with families from different cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.​
  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.
  • Current drivers licence
  • Applicants must be eligible to legally work in Australia and proof of eligibility may be requested.
  • Fully vaccinated with the prescribed doses of an approved vaccine against COVID-19 or have an approved medical exemption.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 6 under the SCHCADS award.
  • Salary range is $92,704 - $96,805 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time).
  • In addition, as a registered Not for Profit/Charity, we offer excellent salary packaging options through RemServ which can significantly increase your take home pay.
