About the job...

We are seeking a dedicated Child and Family Consultant to join our Assessment Service Connect (ASC) team based in Roma, to provide holistic assessment and support planning for families.

This role is a full-time 12 month parental leave backfill position commencing in February 2022. This program is currently government funded until 30 June 2022. Extension of employment contract beyond June 2022 for the remainder of the backfill is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

The Assessment and Service Connect (ASC) initiative is a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary approach developed as a new way of working between Child Safety Services, other government agencies and the non-government sector.

Key responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with team members from Child Safety Services, the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Health and other sector members of the ASC to provide consultation, assessments, advice and input that will provide better outcomes for children and families referred for child protection concerns.
  • Actively build and maintain working relationships with Child Safety as referrers and partners in the ASC co-response.
  • Respond as a part of the ASC team on referrals and provide expert opinion and consultation on referrals, processes and service connections.
  • Actively engage referred families in the ASC co-response process in line with operational guidelines and Act for Kids policy and procedures.
  • Conduct thorough, practice-informed assessments of referred families’ strengths and needs from a child-focused, strengths based approach.

About you...

  • A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (allied health, social work, human services).
  • At least five years’ experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or have experienced abuse and neglect, or more than five years’ experience working in similar roles.
  • Demonstrated specialist skills in at least one of the following areas: drug and alcohol, mental health, family and domestic violence, child development.
  • Understanding of the impacts of trauma on child development and family functioning.
  • Expertise in child development and assessing functioning and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 6.1 – 6.3 under the SCHCADS award;
  • Salary range is $92,704 - $96,805 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time);
  • In addition, as a registered Not for Profit/Charity, we offer excellent salary packaging options through RemServ which can significantly increase your take home pay.
