About the job

We are seeking a dedicated Specialist Family Support Practitioner (Indigenous Identified role) to join our inclusive, compassionate and friendly team based in Townsville. This position is full-time, fixed-term until 31 December 2026. Extension of employment contract beyond this date is subject to the continue successful government funding of the program.

This position delivers an outreach model of complex family case-management programs to families, caregivers, kids and young people and will facilitate social learning, community connectedness, good health and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain a small case load of client families.
  • Regularly attend and participate in case reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other service providers.
  • Maintain your professional skills and meet our operational procedures.
  • Provide advice, guidance and coaching/mentoring in relation to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural practice to team members and managers using a case management framework, including identification and assessment of risk.
  • Work with other professionals and agencies utilising an ecological model.
  • Build the cultural practice capabilities of team members by modelling, mentoring/coaching staff during home visits, interventions, complex family interviews and inter-agency meetings and other practice situations

About you...

  • A tertiary degree or studying towards a relevant discipline (allied health, social work, human services).
  • Professional registration (if required).
  • At least 5 years experience providing complex and intensive case management and therapeutic services.
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • An understanding of current child protection legislation and policy reforms.
  • An ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills in electronic database entry of case management information and using standard Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Outlook or similar.
  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check Child (Blue Card) and Suitability Check (LCS2) to be engaged in the provision of care services by licensed out-of-home care service provider

About the pay

  • Position is classified Level 5.1 – 5.3 under the SCHCADS award.
  • Salary range is $84,855 - $88,703 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time).
