The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is the peak union body representing over 1.5 million workers and their families.

Since its creation in 1927, the ACTU has spearheaded some of the most fundamental workplace struggles in Australia’s history.

The ACTU’s role as a peak body is to be a national voice for our movement and defending and advancing workers’ rights by co-ordinating union campaigns, representing workers at a range of government and non-government forums and to provide industrial, policy and other support to our affiliates.

The Role

The Digital Growth Manager is responsible for the Australian Unions brand presence online, reaching and acquiring new audiences, developing, and refining digital member journeys, and increasing the number of new members.

The Digital Growth Manager will lead a team that is responsible for new member acquisition via digital and mass advertising, and growth engagement via high-impact content creation.

Key responsibilities

The Digital Growth Manager is responsible for delivering digital growth for the Australian union movement via traditional and digital means.

With your peers in the Growth Work Centre, you will determine the digital growth and engagement strategy for the Australian Council of Trade Unions and lead its execution.

You will own and manage stretch targets to drive awareness of the Australian Unions brand presence online, reach growth audiences and acquire new leads, create engaging digital customer journeys and oversee the development of growth-related content and design. You will also be responsible for the Australian Unions e-commerce store and fundraising program.

You will contribute to broader movement growth through the ACTU’s expert practitioner model to share best practice growth tactics.

You will use your experience with digital analytics and data to optimise growth, ensure expenditure is efficient, provide regular reports across the ACTU. This will include continual experimentation and optimisation to exceed ACTU growth goals; with the daily/weekly evaluation of critical KPI’s (CAC, CPC/CPL, and conversion rate).

You enable and empower your team to develop and implement high impact growth plans and tactics that ensures the ACTU is on the front-line of digital innovation.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Significant experience in digital campaigning, development, or recruitment, demonstrating a track record in career progression with increasing responsibility in leadership and digital transformation.
  • Experience managing external vendors, including media buyers and digital agencies.
  • Proven experience in digital strategy and execution within a results focused environment, including solid knowledge of marketing automation, email, demand generation tools (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook ads), SEO and conversion rate optimisation.
  • Proven experience in presenting innovative concepts and solutions both to internal and external audiences.
  • Experience with data, dashboards, reports & analysis, with a strong technical orientation and attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in translating strategy into compelling narratives and positioning messages that increase membership recruitment, grow member engagement, and build brand equity.
  • Experience in creating a positive and high-performance workplace and team culture.
  • Ability to exercise initiative with discretion and judgement and apply risk management controls as needed.
  • Well-developed analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with managing e-commerce and/or fundraising programs highly desired.

Benefits

  • Salary classification – 6.1 ($121,891)

The ACTU offers a competitive salary based on skills and experience, along with 15% superannuation and generous leave arrangements.
