About the role

As the Widening Participation Officer you will be responsible for increasing access, participation and success in Higher Education for potential domestic undergraduate students from low SES backgrounds, including students from regional and remote areas and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

More specifically the role entails:

  • Implementation of widening participation pre-access, access and participation programs and projects on specific ACU campuses with a focus on students from low SES backgrounds, students in regional and remote areas and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Building and sustaining strong relationships with schools and community organisations, and internal ACU stakeholders. Collaboration university wide including with ACU Indigenous Higher Education Unit to develop and implement widening participation programs. Evaluating and reporting on project and program outcomes
  • Contributing to planning and promotion of widening participation programs and projects consistent with the Equity Pathways widening participation agenda across the student lifecycle
  • Contributing to and protecting the safety and wellbeing of students in ACU widening participation programs including children and vulnerable people.

You will need to have:

  • A relevant degree with demonstrated relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of demonstrated relevant experience in equity and widening participation and/or education/training.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with and support students, including those who may have barriers to participation in higher education such as Low SES, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and from regional and remote areas
  • Demonstrated administrative, organisational, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven high level skills in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint to analyse and present data, and prepare and present professional reports and briefings and engaging material for school students and tertiary students if required.
  • Proven sound interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to interact with University staff across different levels and with external Equity Pathways stakeholders and clients.

This position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and/or Working with Vulnerable People Check (WWVP) (ACT only).

What we offer:

  • The University pursues an excellence agenda and offers an environment where staff are welcomed and safe, and valued through development, participation and involvement.
  • Total remuneration valued to $109,661 - $118,685 total rem (pro rata) pa, including salary component $92,665 - $100,290 (pro rata) pa (HEW 7), employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
  • 17% employer superannuation contributions to eligible continuing and fixed-term staff (we provide choice of fund in accordance with relevant legislation, with the University's nominated default superannuation provider as UniSuper).
  • Annual leave loading of an equivalent to 17.5% of four weeks' salary pro rata payable, dependent on your commencement date.
