The ACT Disability, Aged and Carer Advocacy Service (ADACAS) is Not for Profit, Company Limited that was established in 1991. Since then, it has provided free and independent advocacy for people with a disability, people experiencing mental ill-health, older people, and carers. It is predominantly funded by the ACT, NSW and Commonwealth Governments.
ADACAS delivers individual advocacy support across the ACT and has expanded its reach to regional NSW, including the Capital Region, Murrumbidgee, Illawarra and Shoalhaven local health districts. The organisation is also funded to support people who want to access the Redress Scheme, established to compensate people who experienced child sexual abuse in institutional settings, and to assist people to provide their story of abuse and / or neglect to the Disability Royal Commission.
ADACAS delivers its aged care advocacy as the ACT member organisation of the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN). It is also a leader in the emerging field of Supported Decision Making (SDM) for people with reduced cognitive capacity.
ADACAS seeks to recruit new volunteer Board members. The appointment is for a three year term and may be renewed. The role carries the typical expectations of an NFP Board member in providing strategic direction and governance to our organisation. The Board is keen to hear from people with experience in any of the following areas:

The ADACAS Board meetings are held in Canberra, with the option of attending online. They occur every second month in the evenings, generally on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Board members are expected to serve on Board Sub-Committees from time to time.
