We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic Lawyer to join our Housing Justice team. You’ll be helping the most vulnerable of clients, those at risk of losing their homes, by providing advice, representation and advocacy. Your work will be crucial in protecting tenant’s rights and ensuring fair treatment in housing matters.

Role Overview:

  • Offer expert legal advice and representation in tenancy law matters.
  • Advocate for clients in negotiations, mediations, court and tribunal proceedings.
  • Collaborate with other legal professionals and community organisations to support clients.
  • Full-time preferred however part-time will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Service: Provide legal assistance to renters including information, referral and advice.

Advice and Advocacy: Provide expert legal advice and representation in tenancy law matters, including at VCAT and the Magistrates’ Court.

Community Engagement: Collaborate with local communities, stakeholders, and other legal professionals.

Law Reform and Advocacy: Opportunities to contribute to changing the housing landscape within Victoria.

Qualifications:

Admission to Practice: You have a law degree and are eligible for an unsupervised Practising Certificate in Victoria.

Experience: You bring your previous experience in tenancy or other civil law or an enthusiasm to learn this fascinating area of practice

Strong Advocate: You possess excellent advocacy and negotiation skills.

Effective Communicator: You have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Committed to Justice: You are passionate about social justice and community service.
