Tasmanians’ rights can be too easily ignored or threatened by individuals, groups, and systemic structures. At Advocacy Tasmania (AdvoTas) we believe that no one should have their basic rights denied and we exist to uphold the rights of our clients, to resolve their issues and to achieve fairer outcomes. We are always in our clients’ corner and our work is client directed.

AdvoTas is a not-for-profit organisation working for over 30 years providing free, independent advocacy services and rights information sessions across Tasmania. Our services are for older people, people with disability, people experiencing mental health challenges and people who use alcohol or other drugs.

We are accepting applications from suitably qualified people who want to work as a Disability/Mental Health/AOD Advocate in the Hobart/Southern Region. This is a permanent, full time position.

You will need to be passionate about working with people to ensure their voice is heard, an excellent communicator, a self-starter and happy to work in a mobile (home-based) environment while meeting clients in the community.

These positions are classified at 5.1 in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (from July 2024 - 5.1 $97, 377, 5.2 $99, 471, 5.3 $101,783). In addition to the above salary, we also have great salary packaging options – tax free salary packaging that increases ‘take home’ pay, 17.5% annual leave loading and superannuation.

A copy of the position description, including the selection criteria, can be accessed in the attachment below.

You can check out our YouTube channel to hear directly from our Advocates about their work or watch our video ‘What it’s like to be an Advocate’.
