Action for Dolphins

About us

Action for Dolphins (AFD) is a not-for-profit organisation working to gain protection for dolphins and other marine animals.

Our primary campaign is to bring an end to unregulated and inhumane dolphin hunting, with a focus on the annual Taiji dolphin hunts. We also work to end activities that harm Australian marine life, including campaigning to remove lethal shark nets, stop illegal hand-feeding, and phase out dolphin captivity.

We achieve our goals by bringing strategic legal actions and powerful advocacy campaigns, as well as lobbying decision makers, raising awareness through targeted advertising, and occasionally putting on events.

AFD is a small team focused on strategy and results – we aim to achieve the maximum benefit for marine life and the environment.

About the role

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is passionate about animal welfare who is looking to work in a collaborative environment and learn a range of different skills.

The volunteer role will be mostly remote, one to two days per week depending on availability, and run for 3 months with the possibility of extension. Our office is based in Melbourne but due to the current climate we are working remotely. If the successful candidate is from Melbourne they have the opportunity to come into the office in the future, but we are open to candidates from all over Australia.

Day to day tasks include:

  • Drafting social media content for our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter platforms
  • Engaging with supporters online via social media and email
  • Drafting blogs for our website
  • Assisting with grant sourcing and writing
  • Assisting with donor management and donor journeys
  • Assisting with day to day administrative tasks and campaign planning
  • Any ad hoc research tasks for campaigns

As we want our volunteers to make the most out of the program, we will also run you through our operations and if there are any specific areas of interest we can help train you in that area.

About you

We are looking for someone who would enjoy working in a small and dedicated team with a genuine passion for animal welfare and protecting the marine environment.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a demonstrated interest and passion for animal welfare
  • A confident communicator
  • Be highly organised
  • Be willing to learn new systems
  • Be available to work at least one day per week, on either Tuesday or Thursday

To apply please send through your resume, cover letter and availability to Diana Nesic, Community Engagement Coordinator at [email protected] using the subject line: Volunteer application via EthicalJobs. We look forward to hearing from you!
