Board Member - Melbourne / Sydney / ACT

Alliance for Gambling Reform

The Alliance is a national advocacy organisation that works to prevent and minimise the harm from gambling. Our aim is to remove the shame and stigma that surrounds gambling addiction, have the problem treated as a public health issue, and achieve the legislative changes needed to protect our communities.

We have big plans to make a lot of change. We have recently employed a new CEO and are in a phase of renewed strategic energy. We are looking for a board member to contribute to our proper governance and bold ambition. We are especially looking for candidates with fundraising networks and skills in digital community building, but we would recommend applications from people without those fields of expertise.

We welcome applications from those with lived experience of gambling harm, as well as those from traditionally marginalised communities, including First Nations people, people from multicultural, migrant and refugee backgrounds and members of the LGBTIQA+ communities.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

We are looking for someone who:

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the mission and values of AGR
  • Is committed to working in compliance with ACNC and ASIC governance principles
  • Has some experience of strategic planning either in business or not-for-profit organisations
  • Is keen to work collaboratively and respectfully with a skills based board and staff and volunteers
  • Has some experience or networks/knowledge of
    • Fundraising
    • Digital organising and community management

TIME COMMITMENT

Board terms are three years, renewable once. We meet monthly after office hours for approximately 2 hours.

With other committees and ad hoc work, we seek a commitment of 4-8 hours per month.

This is a volunteer position. All pre-approved expenses will be reimbursed.
