Campaign Director - Flexible Location

Australians for a Murdoch Royal Commission

about us

Australians for a Murdoch Royal Commission (AFMRC) is a movement supercharging the campaign to end Murdoch's media monopoly. In response to the record-breaking e-petition launched by Kevin Rudd late last year, the organisation got to work securing a Senate Inquiry that recommended what we know is so sorely needed – a Royal Commission into media diversity. Now, it’s up to us to convince the government to act on media reform within its first term.

We know that a strong, independent and diverse news media made up of journalists who investigate fearlessly and report truthfully is essential to any functioning democracy and fair society.

THE ROLE

The Campaign Director’s responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing digitally-enabled campaign strategy with a range of campaign tactics;
  • Developing and executing fundraising and engagement strategies that support sustainable donations and build supporter engagement;
  • Managing stakeholder relationships ranging from individual community members, civil society groups through to political staff and members of parliament;
  • Preparing or overseeing the preparation of parliamentary submissions, regulatory complaints, public reports and policy proposals;
  • Providing strategic insight of media communications, social media strategies, supporter and volunteer engagement and other campaign related matters;
  • Management of employees (as the team grows); and
  • Other duties as required.

The organisation is still in start-up phase and you will be working directly alongside our National Director.

The ideal candidate

We need someone who can develop a campaign strategy and run at making it happen. A person who is comfortable leading on ideas and taking on the most powerful media beast in the country.

You’ll have experience:

  • Developing campaign strategies and delivering innovative tactics
  • Writing copy and creating campaign narratives
  • Analysing data and strategic analysis of the political landscape
  • Producing creative content, including design skills with Canva or Adobe
  • Lobbying
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience.

Research shows that candidates from underrepresented groups (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, People of Colour, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people living with a disability) often don't apply for roles if they don't meet all the criteria – unlike majority candidates meeting significantly fewer requirements. Even if you don’t have all experience in every criteria mentioned, you could be the perfect person for the job – we encourage everyone who is interested to apply.

This is a permanent full-time position, and can be based anywhere in Australia. We also support flexible working arrangements.

Salary range is $97,0000-$107,000 per annum + 12% Superannuation.
