Are you passionate about community organising? We are looking for an electorate organiser for Melbourne Electorate.

  • Job Status: Fixed contract until 2 weeks after the next Federal Election or June 3 2022, whichever is sooner.
  • Primary hours: 0.8 FTE to full time with frequent evening and weekend work.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you’ll work closely with the Campaign Manager and the field team to implement our field campaign within the key geographic region of the Melbourne electorate. You will build a team to support our movement to have thousands of meaningful and persuasive conversations within the electorate. You will be implementing four key elements of our election campaign at a local level; (a) volunteer recruitment and activation, (b) voter contact coordination, (c) leadership development, and (d) training. As the campaign progresses, further organisers may be hired.

This isn’t your average job: you’ll often work weekends and evenings instead of weekdays, and you’ll need to be self-motivated and flexible – but you’ll meet amazing Greens members from all walks of life, and make a real difference growing the political party that stands up for what matters. If you enjoy working with people and are passionate about building a progressive Australia, you’ll love this job.

The next federal election could happen anytime between August 7 2021 and before May 20 2022. This election presents a crucial opportunity to re-elect Adam as our only Greens voice speaking out for what matters in the Lower House.

ABOUT MELBOURNE AND THE VICTORIAN GREENS

The Greens have a proud history of standing up for what is right, not just what is easy or what polls well. Over the course of the last four decades, the Greens have become the third force in Australian politics.

In 2010, Adam Bandt won the seat of Melbourne, becoming the first Greens MP in the lower house. Since then, Adam has delivered for our values and our community, securing $13 billion for clean energy and getting kids dental into Medicare.

The Greens are much more than an environmental party. The Greens are also working in many other areas to champion integrity, decency and fairness. As well as representing constituents, the Greens speak on behalf of those who wouldn’t otherwise get much of a say inside parliament: children, refugees, students, individuals and families living in poverty and, of course, our natural environment.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and manage a volunteer leadership team: Build a team of local volunteer leaders, develop their skills and support them with training, team meetings and regular 1:1 meetings.
  2. Recruit and activate volunteers: Alongside your volunteer leadership team, execute a volunteer recruitment strategy that will allow us to grow our movement and maximise the number of volunteers directly speaking to voters at their doors, over the phone and at polling booths.
  3. Facilitate voter contact: Through the volunteer teams you have established, oversee the execution of our voter contact strategy, including supporting voter and volunteer calling parties, door knocking events and data management.
  4. Event management: Assist the Campaign Manager with the organisation of large events like campaign launches, community forums and fundraising dinners.
  5. Manage and report on campaign data: Initially lead on ensuring campaign supporter and voter data is kept up to date and secure and provide weekly progress reports regarding key KPIs, and write an evaluation report in the weeks following the campaign. A systems organiser may be hired later in the campaign to lead this.
