ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the General Manager, Advocacy and with one direct report, you will be responsible for leading advocacy campaigns to support the core pillars of the superannuation system and with a focus on the benefits that profit-to-member funds deliver.

You will be responsible for developing and executing plans to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including unions, funds, industry bodies, employer associations, consumer groups and parliamentarians to support AIST advocacy campaigns.

The challenge in this role comes from your ability to effectively advocate on key issues and identify areas of research to support AIST policy campaigns across a range of complex issues. Not only will you develop strategic relationships and establish credibility with Federal parliamentary representatives and our members, but you must also have highly developed understanding of the role of the media in advocacy.

Working collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop and deliver advocacy campaigns that align with AIST’s strategic and operational priorities.

To succeed you will have:

  • Experience in leading advocacy campaigns on policy issues including the provision of timely advice and the preparation of accurate responses within deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of superannuation, especially in the profit-to-member superannuation sector or experience working in government and/or government relations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Australian system of Federal government
  • Experience in engaging with a range of stakeholders and ability to build strong networks within government at all levels.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Analytical approach to be able to translate analysis of research and data into meaningful and valuable strategic insights.
  • Exceptional communicator, both verbal and written communication. Ability to convey complex policy information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Experience in managing direct reports.
  • Ethical and values driven with a member centric approach.
  • A collaborative spirit to work towards the best outcome for our members.
  • Tertiary qualifications in policy, politics, economics, law and or relevant experience.
  • Highly desirable to have completed Diploma of Superannuation (including RG146 certificate) or equivalent.
