  • Full time or part-time for up to 6 months, with the view to ongoing employment
  • $78,736 per annum - $90,253 per annum (depending on skills and experience), plus an all incidence allowance of $9,179 per annum, employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Based in Parliament of NSW, Sydney CBD
  • Part-time work arrangements will be considered 

Animal Justice Party MP Emma Hurst is looking for a well-rounded communications advisor with strong advocacy skills to join her team. The successful applicant must be passionate about animal protection and, while not essential, will ideally have experience working in animal advocacy and/or communications. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing a strong community, media and parliamentary presence on key animal protection issues.

This position will be primarily focussed on media, speech writing, managing content on the office website, email (Nationbuilder), and social media channels, office administration, managing constituent enquiries and correspondence, and liaising with other MPs’ offices as required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Excellent writing skills including the ability to prepare speeches, correspondence, briefing notes, submissions, newsletters and media releases.
  • Demonstrated research skills.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to hear from and liaise with community groups, government and non-government organisations, and the media.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement and ability to perform at a high standard under limited supervision and within a team environment.
  • An interest in, and understanding of, the Australian political context.
  • Good word processing/keyboard and computer skills in an office environment.
  • Strong office administration skills using information technology to undertake duties including: managing correspondence, coordinating diaries, meetings and event planning and keeping and maintaining financial records. 

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Commitment to Animal Justice Party values and principles of Kindness, Equality, Rationality and Non-violence.
  • Experience with Nationbuilder or similar campaign/email platform
  • Experience dealing with the media, including developing and pitching stories for media outlets.
  • Experience with Canva, Photoshop or similar program
  • Occasional regional travel will be required on some nights and weekends. A NSW Drivers Licence, while not essential, will be beneficial.
