Alfalfa House is a not-for-profit co-operative that aims to provide minimally packaged and minimally processed, affordable, wholesome, organic food, products and services to its members and the broader community. Alfalfa House’s vision is ‘Sustainable and healthy food for a sustainable and healthy planet’, and the co-op operates on ethical and fair-trade principles. Staffed by a paid team and member volunteers, it is supported by a board (Members’ Council).

Located on Enmore Road in Sydney’s Inner West, Alfalfa House goes beyond the usual ‘green’ store: we compost, reuse boxes, recycle soft plastics, and much more, while keeping the community active and informed with events and workshops.

about the role

The Manager will lead a passionate and committed team of staff and volunteers to run the Alfalfa House shop as a thriving enterprise and foster an engaged member community.

Duties include:

• Oversee the retail aspects of Alfalfa House Community Food Co-op
• Ensure the shop meets food health safety standards and equipment is maintained
• Lead and engage staff and volunteers to ensure workflows are completed effectively
• Maintain and develop co-op membership
• Oversee and deliver Alfalfa House’s strategic and financial plans
• Support the Members’ Council in its governance and accountability obligations
