Volunteer - National Photography Network Member - Australia-wide

Amnesty International Australia
  • We are accepting volunteers for this position from all around the country and encourage applicants based all around Australia to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer with our National Photography Network!

As a member of the Amnesty International Australia (AIA) National Photography Network, you’ll use your photography skills to help capture content at AIA activist or staff-led events. You’ll work collaboratively with the AIA Multimedia Producer and activists and staff on the ground to capture high quality and professional content that proudly champions the work of our amazing activists and staff in fighting for human rights.

Opportunities in which we’d need your support in content gathering will be ad-hoc and dependent on what activists and staff in your region have planned, so this will be a low-commitment volunteer role in which we’ll be in touch at varied times of the year with content gathering opportunities, while also aiming to give you as much notice as possible.

This is an ideal volunteer role for someone with semi-professional to professional photography experience or who is studying photography at a tertiary level, who is looking to volunteer on an ad-hoc basis when they have capacity, and would like to help meaningfully capture and communicate the important work that we do in fighting for human rights.

As a member of the National Photography Network, some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Attending some initial training sessions to develop a deeper understanding of Amnesty International Australia’s work and our messaging and branding
  • Being available to help photograph and capture multi-media content at activist and / or staff led events in your region as identified by the AIA Multimedia Producer
  • Being available for pre-event briefings with the AIA Multimedia Producer
  • Delivering captured multimedia content to AIA Multimedia Producer in timely fashion

Selection Criteria:

  • Have you had experience using professional level photography equipment (for e.g. DSLR/Mirrorless cameras or similar level equipment) and do you currently have access to your own professional level equipment?
  • Have you had photography experience at a semi-professional to professional level and / or a tertiary student level?
  • Please tell us about your interest in human rights and social justice and why you are interested in getting involved with the National Photography Network.
