About us

AMRRIC (Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities) is a national not-for-profit organisation that works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve the health and welfare of their companion animals. In doing so, we are helping to create healthier, safer and happier communities. The core values of AMRRIC are: respect, accountability, integrity, outcomes focus, interconnectedness. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee, established in 2017, brings the voice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities into the planning, design, delivery, and evaluation of AMRRIC’s discrete animal management services and programs. The Advisory Committee’s purpose is to provide advice and support to the AMRRIC Board and program operations.

The roles

AMRRIC is seeking expressions of interest for vacancies on their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee. There are up to nine positions on the Advisory Committee which seeks to have representation for Indigenous communities nationally incorporating a range of views, experience, skills, gender and geography.

The Advisory Committee currently has 3 vacant positions and is seeking someone who is interested and willing to travel to community and actively engage in the activities and meetings of the Committee. To enhance the governance structure support the committee provide to AMRRIC the Advisory Committee are particularly interested in recruiting persons who:

  • have a community voice
  • have close ties to communities
  • are engaged with or have an interest in environmental health
  • are engaged with remote regional councils
  • are interested in the health and wellbeing of companion animals

Responsibilities required

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, passionate about companion animal management in remote communities;
  • Commitment to a maximum term of three years, with a commitment to attend at least two scheduled meetings per year (often in a face-to-face capacity, where possible), plus additional meetings as called by the Group;
  • Fees for attendance at AMRRIC meetings and other approved business is available, AMRRIC will arrange and meet the costs of necessary accommodation, travel and associated expenses to attend meetings and any other approved related business;
  • Opportunities for professional development in governance alongside the AMRRIC board.
