AMRRIC is seeking an experienced project officer with a passion for working in partnership with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve animal health and biosecurity.

AMRRIC (Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities Ltd) is an established, national not-for-profit organisation based in Darwin. Our small team of dedicated staff deliver a diverse range of programs spanning community and animal health and welfare, education and training, academic research, strategic planning and advocacy. We work in partnership with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve the health of their pets, helping to create healthier, safer and happier communities.

AMRRIC has recently secured funding to deliver a 3 year, Community Animal Health Surveillance Project in 6 regions across Northern Australia. The Biosecurity Project Officer will be a new role, working with AMRRIC’s Program Manager – Strategic Delivery on all functions relating to the project, including:

  • Cultivating and nurturing collaborative relationships with participating Indigenous community members and stakeholders
  • With the support of AMRRIC’s Education team, developing and delivering annual animal health, biosecurity and data capture training and education programs in remote communities across Northern Australia
  • Working with AMRRIC’s IT providers and collaborating stakeholders to implement enhancements to the AMRRIC App – AMRRIC’s companion animal health and biosecurity surveillance tool
  • Coordinating animal health and biosecurity data analysis and sharing, as well as broader project planning and reporting.

Our ideal candidate is an experienced project officer with relevant qualifications in animal health and/or biosecurity; has fantastic stakeholder relationship management skills; has an interest in biosecurity monitoring; has experience delivering adult education to cultural and linguistically diverse audiences; relishes cultural diversity and the opportunity to travel to remote locations.

The role reports to the Program Manager - Strategic Delivery and can be based Darwin, Cairns or Broome. This is a contracted role to 30th December 2024. Flexible working arrangements will be considered for the right candidate. This is an immediate start position, taking into account personal circumstances for the successful applicant.
