AMSANT is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in the Northern Territory and advocates for equity in health, focusing on supporting the provision of high quality comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal communities.
This position will support the Aboriginal Primary Health Care sector to reduce smoking and the harms it causes by supporting promoting a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) approach to tobacco control, to improve marketing and messaging, smoke-free areas and tobacco control as part of routine clinical care. An estimated 63% of Aboriginal people smoke in remote NT, but improvements are possible and are happening now. A Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) approach uses repeated plan-do-study-act cycles to improve services. AMSANT has a CQI team which provides support for CQI activities to all health services in the NT.
This position will work closely with Tobacco Working Group of the NT Aboriginal Health Forum, and is supported by the Chair of the Tobacco Working Group, who is seconded from Menzies School of Health Research. The position will involve travel to support health services across the NT.
