An amazing opportunity to join our new headspace centre in Hedland – come and work with the dream green team!!
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people, and who wants to be part of a team making a real and lasting impact for young people in the Pilbara region. This is a full-time, ongoing role based in Hedland.
headspace, Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation, provides vital early intervention mental health services to young people with mild to moderate mental health issues affecting their wellbeing.
Our mission is to improve the mental and social wellbeing of young people by providing services that are welcoming, friendly, supportive and culturally safe. We have delivered the headspace Pilbara outreach service for 3 years and are excited to now expand with two new centres in Karratha and Hedland. As we prepare for this expansion we are looking for amazing people to join our team.
That's where you come in!
Working closely with a range of local health and community partner organisations, headspace Hedland uses an innovative approach to engage with young people. The team provides a holistic, wrap around primary health care service for young people in the Pilbara with mild to moderate mental health challenges affecting their wellbeing. Services span the core areas of mental health, physical health, vocational support and alcohol and drug services.
The Community Engagement Worker, based in Port Hedland, will be instrumental in increasing community awareness of mental health issues among young people. You will continue the work of leading the development, implementation and evaluation of a culturally and contextually appropriate Community Engagement Strategy in which young people are the primary audience. You will also lead and guide the Youth Advisory Group to ensure the voice of young people is always present in every area of headspace Hedland.
Your passion and enthusiasm will come to the fore as you work to facilitate the participation of young people (and where appropriate their families). You will develop and deliver community events, workshops, training and marketing materials to raise awareness of and engagement with headspace Hedland. You will use your creativity to ensure headspace Karratha has a presence at key community events such as R U OK Day, Pride Week and Reconciliation Week, in line with the Community Engagement Strategy.
Tertiary qualifications in community development, community awareness and/or engagement, youth work, social work, social science or equivalent are required for this role. An exemption to this requirement may apply to applicants who have demonstrated equivalent experience and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or who are Aboriginal.
While your qualifications and experience tell us part of your story, your values and attitude speak louder still. At Anglicare WA we are all about people, placing people at the heart of our work. We are focused on strengths, believing in and amplifying the strength of people and communities. We are fiercely inclusive, making sure everyone can belong. As trusted partners we are curious and creative, always looking for new ways to do better. We are courageous and gutsy, tackling difficult issues, even when it’s hard. Do these values resonate with you?
To be a success in this role, you will have a passion for working with young people and be a self-motivated team player with plenty of initiative and creative solutions up your sleeve. In return, you will be rewarded with a career building role, supported by an extended team of like minded people. Other benefits include attractive remuneration with generous remote allowances as well as access to salary packaging.
