About us

headspace, Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation, provides vital early intervention mental health services to young people with mild to moderate mental health issues affecting their wellbeing.

Our mission is to improve the mental and social wellbeing of young people by providing services that are welcoming, friendly, supportive and culturally safe. We have delivered the headspace Pilbara outreach service for 3 years and are excited to now expand with two new centres in Karratha and Hedland. As we prepare for this expansion we are looking for amazing people to join our team.

About the role

As the Intake Officer, you will provide a person centred, trauma informed entry experience for young people seeking to access services from headspace Hedland.

You will co-ordinate the intake and triage process for enquiries and new referrals into headspace Hedland and headspace Pilbara from all entry points including community services, schools, family & friends, and young people themselves. You will provide intake assessments to young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues, and support to their families.

The Intake Officer assesses risk and develops appropriate action plans and works collaboratively with young people to provide brief interventions. You will utilise a case coordination approach to ensure a smooth referral pathway for young people and will quickly develop and maintain referral relationships with relevant service providers.

Your passion for supporting young people will shine through in all you do. You will participate in the delivery of a range of community events, training activities, promotional days and other activities. You will work professionally, be self-motivated and be able to apply cultural awareness and competence as you develop relationships with Aboriginal young people and their families.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week), ongoing position and will be based in our new headspace Hedland centre.

About you

You are a passionate and talented individual who wants to be part of a team who delivers quality services to young people and their families.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in relevant clinical discipline including clinical psychology, psychology, mental health, mental health nursing, social work or equivalent (an exemption to this essential requirement may apply to applicants who have demonstrated equivalent knowledge of and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or who are Aboriginal)
  • Demonstrated experience working with and engaging young people with complex needs
  • Experience in providing clinical intake, assessment and referral to young people and their families
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Experience in the development of strong, positive working relationships with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges and experiences of young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Broad knowledge of the range of services available to young people in the local government, health, education, employment, and youth sectors

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year and a Western Australian drivers license. A Working with Children Check and will also be required.

Benefits

  • $80,513 per annum full time + 10% superannuation (inclusive of 10% remote area allowance)
  • Generous rent subsidy of $250 per week (eligibility criteria apply)
  • In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum and not pay tax on that amount.
