This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people, and who wants to be part of a team making a real and lasting impact for young people in the Pilbara region. This is a full-time, ongoing role based in Hedland.

About us

headspace, Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation, provides vital early intervention mental health services to young people with mild to moderate mental health issues affecting their wellbeing.

Our mission is to improve the mental and social wellbeing of young people by providing services that are welcoming, friendly, supportive and culturally safe. We have delivered the headspace Pilbara outreach service for 3 years and are excited to now expand with two new centres in Karratha and Hedland. As we prepare for this expansion we are looking for amazing people to join our team.

About the role

The Service Support Officer is the administrative superstar of the headspace Hedland team.

The Service Support Officer can be the first point of contact for young people and their families and you will need to be able to build rapport and respond with kindness and empathy. You will professionally manage incoming telephone calls, referrals, coordinate multiple activities and meetings within the service and at the centre and complete a full range of administrative tasks. You will ensure our reception area is organised and inviting and be a welcoming voice and face to young people and visitors to the service and new centre. You will be a data entry expert and will be skilled at accurately completing a range of data entry tasks across a range of systems.

Your passion for supporting young people will shine through in all you do. You will be able to support the organisation of a range of community events, training activities, promotional days and other activities. You will work professionally, be self-motivated and be able to apply cultural awareness and competence as you develop relationships with Aboriginal young people and their families.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week),ongoing position and will we be based in our new Hedland centre.

About you

You are a passionate and talented individual who wants to be part of a team who delivers quality services to young people and their families.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in business, administration, finance or related discipline would be an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience in an administration or reception role in a community services or health related organisation
  • Interest in working with young people and a willingness to complete any required training
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to relate to a wide range of people in need of assistance
  • Ability to respond to people in distress, and be comfortable deescalating people who are upset
  • Well-developed computer skills (MS Word, MS Outlook, client management system)
  • Financial management skills including ability to issue invoices and receipt money
  • Ability to prioritise, plan work and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to be flexible, demonstrate initiative and work effectively under pressure in a team environment

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year. A Working with Children Check and will also be required.

Benefits

  • Full time salary $69,806 per annum plus 10% super (inclusive of Remote Area Allowance)
  • Generous rent subsidy of $250 per week (eligibility criteria apply)
  • In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum and not pay tax on that amount.
  • Additional 3 days (pro-rata) leave per year
