About the Position

You will work in a respectful way with Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander young people and their families to reduce barriers and increase their participation and engagement in the headspace Katherine service. This position aims to reduce the shame and stigma that can be experienced by Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander young people when reaching out for support for their social and emotional wellbeing.
As the Aboriginal Community Engagement Worker, you will be responsible for sharing mental health information and providing education and awareness activities to both Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander young people and other young people from different and diverse backgrounds in a culturally safe and appropriate way.

You will need to have a Certificate IV qualification or 1 years' experience in Youth Work, Mental Health, Population Health or Community Services. If you do not have a qualification you must be willing to complete relevant studies through a work-based traineeship at headspace Katherine.

You will uphold the values of Anglicare NT and provide quality services within the scope of the position and associated delegations.

It is an operational requirement that this position is occupied by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Please note: It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must possess a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card), a National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a current Northern Territory driver's licence.

Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.
