Timber Production Lead - Angurugu, Groote Eylandt

The ALC is seeking a Timber Production Lead to join the Forestry, Milling & Men’s Shed program within our Preserving Culture department. This role reports to the Forestry, Milling & Men’s Shed Coordinator and is responsible for assisting with training and supporting the program staff to achieve the programs established goals and desired outcomes for upskilling the workforce, and continuing to develop the programs production and productivity to deliver on program objectives and performance requirements.

A main objective for this role is to upskill the program employees to be able to meet industry standards to successfully obtain relevant qualifications or demonstrated proficiencies and develop transferrable skills that can be taken into other workplace environments within the timber or building industries.

This role will work closely with the Traditional Owner employees and local communities to increase their engagement with the program to develop the skills and knowledge essential to gain the required qualifications and proficiencies.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Trade qualifications in building, cabinetry or similar
  2. Experience, skills and understanding of woodwork and woodworking equipment, including a four-sided moulder.
  3. Experience supervising, training or mentoring Traditional Owners.
  4. Ability to proactively manage the WHS requirements of workspaces by adhering to relevant codes of practice and organisational policies and procedures.
  5. A proven ability to communicate, build and maintain strong and effective relationships within a remote indigenous community.
  6. Demonstrated high level of self-motivation, with an ability to motivate and lead a team.
  7. A valid and current HR drivers’ licence.

Desirable

  1. Chainsaw and working at risk card.
  2. First Aid Certificate.
  3. Experience with computer programs including MS Word and Excel.
  4. Previous experience living and working within a remote indigenous community.
